What type of music do you play?
The Jumping Beans play a mixture of Irish, American, Scottish and English tunes and songs on traditional instruments, suitable for either dancing or listening.
You can listen to and watch the band in action on our listen page.
What if we don’t know the dances?
No worries! We bring our own caller to guide you through all the dances. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of fun, lively dances … and he always manages to get even the most reluctant guests onto the dance floor.
What do you cost?
The price for the basic three-piece band in the vicinity of Cambridge is £300.;
The four-piece ceilidh line up (caller plus the three-piece band) is £400.;
Additional musicians (extra fiddle and/or guitar or other instruments can be arranged on request) are available for £75; per musician; i.e. £475; for a four-piece band or £550; for a five-piece band (including caller).
The price includes all of the equipment necessary for the event, including high quality sound system (PA).

How far will you travel?
We are based in Cambridge but we are happy to travel up to 75 miles. However, travel charges will apply for distances of more than 25 miles.
How long do you play for?
We can play for as long or short as you would like. Typically for a ceilidh we play 2 one-hour sets, with some background music during the break.
Whereas for background music, we can play from 2-3 hours of music, with a mixture of songs and tunes. We will make sure there is a CD playing during any short breaks we take. If you prefer to bring your own CDs, just let us know in advance.
Do you need a stage?
It’s great to be on a stage as it creates an obvious dancefloor and performance ambience – but it’s not at all necessary. We play lots of events without a stage.
How much space do you need?
Less than you think! Around 4m x 2m for the 3-piece band is fine. However we are practised at fitting into unusual spaces and can also play outside (but we need to be undercover in case of rain, but we can play from a small marquee into an outside area).
We can play a Ceilidh/Barn Dance for 200 people or more, if the hall is large enough.
How long do you need to set up?
We take about an hour to set up our PA equipment.
Do you use backing tracks?
No, we are a completely live band and do not use backing tracks.
What are your technical requirements?
A safe and properly earthed supply of electricity, near the performance area, should be provided by the venue. This should terminate in a standard domestic 13 amp socket.
Can we use your PA system for speeches or music?
Yes, as long as you are using it after our set up and sound check then the PA can be used for speeches/music, but please tell us in advance.
Can I come and see you play?
Most of our bookings are for private events so this can be difficult. However, any public bookings we do are publicised on the home page or on our Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Jumping-Beans/283943335003627 and you are very welcome to attend.
